What is the Burundi Miracle Project?
In the heart of Burundi, the world's poorest nation, the challenges are immense—genocide, disease, famine, and poverty have taken a heavy toll. Two-thirds of its 12 million citizens are under 25, and many are orphaned, enduring hardship without resources or hope. At the Burundi Miracle Project (BMP), we see these challenges as an opportunity to create something beautiful. Together with our dedicated Burundian team, we serve as "agents of reconciliation," investing our time and talents in programs that offer aid and hope to those who need it most, with a special focus on orphaned children and vulnerable adult and elderly populations. A Brief Timeline
of Georgette’s Activity in Burundi

BMP supported the opening of Burundi’s first-ever private assisted living home for five elderly persons

Mama Georgette and Sandra, Mama Gorgette’s daughter, opened a care center for children and mothers. Over forty children receive nutrition and healthcare, and their mothers can attend health and wellness classes at the center.

Sandra joined the team in Burundi in 2021, and in 2022 she moved there on a more permanent basis, Mama Georgette fondly calls her, “my successor.”

BMP assisted Mama Georgette with the purchase of 8.5 acres outside of Bujumura. This land is being developed as the future home of a boarding school that will serve 400 children.

BMP supports the development of a family-owned property into a farm. Today, both crops and many animals (cows, goats, chickens) are raised on the land.

BMP assists Mama Georgette in starting a food program for 200 children living in the slums of Bujumbura. Today, over 600 children receive provisions that ensure they can eat a meal every day.

Mama Georgette founds a Burundian NGO and opens an orphanage to five children. Today twenty orphans live comfortably and happily together. Some of the children receive scholarships for education through BMP.

Georgette returns to her native Burundi for the first time in over a decade and finds great suffering among the people, especially children.
Mission & Vision

BMP sees Burundi’s need as an opportunity to do something beautiful: to help Burundians help Burundians. That’s why BMP supports the incredible work of Mama Georgette (a native Burundian). In efforts to be “agents of reconciliation” in Burundi, Mama Georgette, Sandra, and the Burundian team invest their time and talents in building programs that serve those who cannot help themselves—especially orphaned children, but also the adult and elderly populations.

Striving to build a sustainable future for the children of Burundi, Africa, requires strategy and patience. In 2014, only a handful of children were served. Today, nearly 700 children reached through the various programs offered: orphanages, care centers, farms, food programs, and scholarship funds. In the next five years, BMP hopes to assist Mama Georgette and Sandra transition from running these multiple initiatives to blending them under the umbrella of boarding schools/vocational schools for children and teens.
BMP believes in a three-fold approach to bringing hope, health, and wellness to the children of Burundi.
First, the spiritual needs of the children are met by:
• Bringing the children (and their care givers) together
• Singing to and with them of God’s love and provision
• Loving them as Christ loves us
• Teaching them Bible stories that demonstrate how the Lord hears the cries of His children
Second, attention is given to their most basic physical needs by:
• Helping them to wash their hands
• Tending to their wounds and sores
• Serving meals to them
• Welcoming them to return for more
Third, the mental and emotional needs of the children can be addressed because:
• Well-nourished children can focus better in school
• Parents and care givers receive training on meal preparation and hygiene
• Tutoring and scholarships are made available to children -
At the Burundi Miracle Project, our foundation is rooted in faith and devotion to the Triune God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), who created the world, who redeemed fallen mankind through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and who rules the world with mercy and grace. We proclaim that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are infallible and guide us in how to live and serve. Every day, we witness His miracles, from the rising sun to answered prayers for guidance and provision.
We strive to “Remember the wondrous works that He has done, His miracles and the judgments He uttered” (I Chronicles 16:12).
We pray for the work of Mama Georgette and Sandra using the words of Jesus in the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-11):”Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
